Here at Standedge Tunnel we offer a number of paddle sport events for the whole family to enjoy.
Join us on the water and have a go at stand up paddle boarding (SUP), canoeing and for the more experienced paddler/adventurer a canoe trip through the longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel in the UK.
Taster sessions.
During the spring and summer months our team at Standedge run 90 minute taster sessions, where you can begin to master the art of canoeing and stand-up paddle boarding on the stunning Huddersfield Narrow Canal in Marsden.
All sessions are delivered by qualified paddle instructors on the Narrow Canal. All the kit is provided including canoes/paddle boards, paddles, helmets (SUP only) and buoyancy aids.

Canoe trips through Standedge Tunnel.
Over the summer months, we will be operating three long weekends of guided canoe trips through Standedge Tunnel, which spans 3.5 miles under the Pennines between Marsden and Diggle in Lancashire. This awe-inspiring tunnel, one of the seven wonders of the waterways, is an extraordinary feat of engineering, taking over 17 years to dig by hand. Those taking the trip through the tunnel can see just how it was constructed, whilst enjoying the paddling experience.
This trip is not for the faint hearted and is for experienced paddlers only. Taking approximatley 2 hours to complete, this one way trip is a 'bucket list' trip that needs to be ticked off.
All canoes and paddles are provided along with buayancy aids and helmets, however customers are welcome to bring their own PPE for the trip.
Trips are one direction only from Marsden to Diggle (AM) or Diggle to Marsden (PM). Customers will need to make arrangements for themselves to return to their point of departure.
